I have a theory I believe and it comes from 27 years of coaching this game. You can learn a lot about a team by the way they warm up. I like to arrive early on game day so I can watch players go through warm-up's. Laziness and apparent skills appear well before the first play from scrimmage. I also get to watch how quickly the feet and hips are moving during warm-ups.
